I'm Cicely Blain. I am a consultant, facilitator, writer and artist based in Vancouver, BC. I grew up in London, England and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a major in Modern European Studies and a minor in Russian language. I have always been passionate about getting involved in my local community and making meaningful change in the lives of marginalized people. Being a queer person of mixed heritage, it's always been important to me to stand up for those who experience discrimination and oppression in schools, the workplace and society at large.

My passion for activism started in my teenage years, when I was instrumental in winning an $8 million grant from the British government to build a community centre for young people in poor urban environments. I realized the power of commitment to a cause, hard-work, and compassionate community building. This achievement earned me the International Leader of Tomorrow Award scholarship at UBC, where I continued my work towards a more inclusive, just and accessible world.

In my final year, my work and commitment to revolutionary change earned me a place as a finalist for the YWCA Vancouver Young Woman of Distinction Award. I graduated early and pursued my dream of working with marginalized communities and providing support to young LGBTQ people. Through this experience, I realized many more of my dreams. I was nominated for the BC Multicultural awards, the City of Vancouver Inclusion awards and finally won the CCPA Youth Leadership Award in Social Movement Building. I was invited to speak at the United Nations Summit in Quito, Ecuador as a member of the Canadian Delegation and more recently, as a keynote for the annual Black Canadian Studies Conference.

In 2017, I was featured as one of "the coolest people who call Vancouver home" and as one of CBC's 150 Black women making change across Canada. I also became a columnist for Daily Xtra, Beyond the Binary, DIVA magazine and The Body Is Not An Apology.

These exciting opportunities allowed me to reach huge audiences and watch real and incredible change happen across the city and beyond. My knowledge, experience and expertise was in high demand and I was facilitating workshops, hosting events and presenting keynote speeches weekly. Most importantly, I was supporting people in making their organizations and businesses safer and more comfortable for everyone.

I decided to quit my day job and pursue my consulting and facilitation full time. I was invited to complete a tour in Europe where I worked with a variety of organizations across the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland. My success there empowered me to bring Cicely Blain Consulting to life and support organizations and companies in Vancouver to be a part of an inclusive, equitable and accessible future.

I'm really excited for you to join me on this journey!
